My first job as an engineer was a design engineer job. It was my job to come up with ideas for people who needed their factory to work a different way.
My job was to draw with pencil first, usually 3 ideas of the different new machines that they needed.

Then when the final idea was chosen, I would use a computer program called Solid Works – a 3D modelling program to draw the machines. Once the drawings and models were all finished. I would send the information away, so the machines could be built.

This could sometimes take almost 4 months….if it was a really big machine. When we got it back, we would test it to make sure it worked properly.

Then it was ready to be sent to our customer for their new factory.
